Siena and San Gimignano with Chianti wine tasting (from Florence)

Description

This tour will depart from Florence in the first morning and it will take you through the Chianti countryside, famous all over the world for its picturesque scenery of vineyards and olive trees. You will be fascinated by the wonderful San Gimignano, the little walled town renowned for its numerous towers, frescoes and valuable works of art. There, you will head back in time to Medieval epoch visiting. During your free time we suggest you to visit the small and fascinating museum of the medieval towers, housed in a palace that belongs to the Middle Ages. Inside, you will be able to see how San Gimignano must have appeared in the 13th century. Last but not least, you will understand how much work there is behind handmade object of art & crafts, produced by skilled craftsmen who have been keeping up a long standing tradition of excellence for centuries.

Later on you will have the opportunity to visit the wonderful medieval hamlet of Monteriggioni, an enchanting fortified village that dominates the surroundings from the top of a hill.

Then, we will continue our way to a great Chianti winery where you will taste their best locally produced wines and sample balsamic vinegar to end this lovely experience in the heart of the Chianti countryside with delicious Tuscan flavors and lunch.

Our next stop will be in Siena, where you will have free time for lunch (not included). Then, we will meet our local expert guide to start exploring the old town center. You will be taken around its narrow medieval streets and you will admire superb palaces before reaching the magnificent Cathedral of 12th century, of which you can admire the astonishing poly-chrome marble facade.

After this striking experience, you will have a real taste of Siena’s Cathedral and Piccolomini library with special guided visit.

Later on, walking along the ancient streets, you will reach the real heart of Siena: the famous Piazza del Campo, one of the finest squares in Italy, overlooked by the stunning Palazzo Pubblico (the historical town hall).
